Hospital Compliance With Price Transparency Rules Erodes

Hospitals’ compliance with federal price transparency regulations declined during 2024. According to the organization PatientRightsAdvocate.org, hospital compliance with the federal standard fell from 34.5 percent in February of this year to 21.1 percent in November. Federal Health Policy Update for August 22

The following is the latest health policy news from the federal government for August 16-22.  Some of the language used below is taken directly from government documents. The Courts The federal government must include uninsured patients whom hospitals serve under state Medicaid waivers when calculating hospitals’ Medicare DSH payments, a federal court has ruled.  In the case of Baylor All Saints Medical Center, et al. v. Hospital Transparency Violators Falling Into Line

Hospitals cited by the federal government for failing to comply with hospital price transparency requirements are quickly coming into compliance with those requirements once cited. According to an analysis by Becker’s Hospital Review, of the 14 hospitals actually fined for transparency violations, 10 have been informed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that they now meet the law’s requirements.  Information about the other four of the 14 hospitals was not available.
